We’re Hiring a Production Coordinator
Forget The Box Media is a federally incorporated not-for-profit organization. Our raison d’être is Forget The Box(.ca), Montreal's premiere Anglo arts magazine, committed to increasing the visibility of ground-level, underground, and marginalized artists through hyper-local arts journalism.
We are looking for a Production Coordinator to join us as our internal logistical engine!
This is a strictly backend, operational role. You won’t be writing, pitching, or dealing with external PR firms. Instead, you’ll be the vital link between our editorial team and our contributor pool, keeping the mechanics of the magazine organized and on track.
This is a 6-month volunteer contract to start. We are all volunteers right now, working hard to build out these operations so they are fully prepared for core funding. Following a successful 6-month review, the role transitions to a monthly honorarium model, with the ultimate goal of becoming a fully salaried staff position once our upcoming core operational grants are secured.
What You’ll Be Doing
Welcoming New Writers: When our Editor-in-Chief brings on a new contributor, you’ll take over the technical onboarding—getting them into our Google Space, walking them through our intake form, and handing off our Contributor Handbook.
Guarding the Calendar: You will keep our shared production calendar up to date and step in to help troubleshoot or coordinate extensions directly with writers when a deadline is missed.
Pre-Flight File Auditing: Before a piece goes to layout, you’ll run a quick quality-control check on the folder. You'll make sure the edited text is there, the venue names and showtimes are accurate, and high-res photos are properly credited.
Keeping Us Organized: You'll ensure our internal guidelines, databases, and contributor contacts are clean and up to date.
Who You Are
You love the Montreal scene: You are passionate about local DIY music, indie theatre, underground art, and grassroots culture.
You secretly (or openly) love spreadsheets: You get genuine satisfaction from neat folder structures, updated calendars, and organized files.
You're a detailed-oriented communicator: You can nudgingly chase down a late draft with warmth, and you're the type of person who immediately spots a misspelled artist name.
How to Apply
To apply, please send your CV along with a cover letter briefly explaining who you are, why you love the arts, and any relevant administrative, media, or organizing experience you have.
Please send your application to our Creative Director, Andrew Jamieson, at andrew@forgetthebox.ca.

We are looking for a Social Media Co-Manager (Curator) to spearhead our digital infrastructure, text continuity, and backend scheduling!
This is a remote, desktop-focused role. You won’t be chasing down visual trends or running around the city. Instead, you’ll be the meticulous structural backbone of our digital platforms, ensuring our text formatting is flawless, our grids are organized, and our extensive historical archives remain active.

We’re Hiring a Social Media Co-Manager (Producer)
Forget The Box Media is a federally incorporated not-for-profit organization. Our raison d’être is Forget The Box(.ca), Montreal's premiere Anglo arts magazine, committed to increasing the visibility of ground-level, underground, and marginalized artists through hyper-local arts journalism.
We are looking for a Social Media Co-Manager (Producer) to serve as our digital visual pulse and front-facing community connector!
This is an active, mobile-focused role. You will be the on-the-ground representative of the magazine, translating our static journalism into fast-moving, high-reach video content and building authentic, peer-to-peer relationships with local artists in the scene.
This is a 6-month volunteer contract to start. We are all volunteers right now, working hard to build out these operations so they are fully prepared for core funding. Following a successful 6-month review, the role transitions to a monthly honorarium model (with a target of $22–$25/hr), with the ultimate goal of becoming a paid contractual position once our upcoming fundraising campaigns and core operational grants are secured. As part of this role, free specific not-for-profit focused social media training will be provided.
What You’ll Be Doing
Weekly Editorial Roundup Reels: You will take static imagery and approved assets from our weekly features (provided in Google Workspace) and transform them into clean, kinetic 15-second teaser Reels using Canva to preview new site articles.
Ground-Level Field Work (2 Events/Week): You will bring the physical energy of Montreal's underground spaces into our digital ecosystem. You'll hit approximately two local independent art events, vernissages, or indie theatre shows a week to capture raw, authentic mobile video.
Live Story Takeovers: Real-time, raw, high-energy clips dropped straight into our Instagram/Facebook Stories.
Curated Reels: Polished, short-form mobile video editing highlighting a specific underground venue or essential recurring creative event (aligning with our Venue or Event Series frameworks).
Inbox & Community Care: You will manage the front line of our social platforms. You'll conduct daily sweeps of our Instagram and Facebook DMs and comment sections—triaging inquiries, engaging with readers in our authentic brand voice, and routing hot event tips or submissions straight to the editorial team.
Active Artist Outreach: You will actively scout the local scene to identify ground-level, underground, and marginalized artists promoting upcoming projects. You'll conduct direct outreach via DMs, inviting and encouraging them to submit their events directly to our weekly curated events listing.
Who You Are
You live and breathe the Montreal scene: You are already out at local spaces, indie theatre shows, and vernissages because it’s your lifestyle, we’re just giving you a platform, an audience, and a press badge.
You have a creative eye: You are comfortable shooting video on your phone in dimly lit, crowded rooms and know your way around fast mobile editing workflows.
You have the technical toolkit: You have functional experience working within Meta platforms (Instagram/Facebook app interfaces), Canva (for creating kinetic layouts/text overlays for Reels), and utilizing Google Workspace to pull assets.
You are an authentic communicator: You have a natural, conversational digital presence and can maintain a peer-to-peer tone that completely rejects generic corporate hype or influencer tropes.
You respect identity boundaries: You adhere strictly to our absolute rule to never infer or assume an artist's identity markers (race, heritage, pronouns, orientation) unless they are explicitly stated in our editorial text.
