Feature Friday - Collin Ryan
Name
Collin Ryan
Pronouns
N slash A
Bio
Born and raised in NDG, Collin now lives in the South Shore as a full time single dad to his two teenage sons John and Patrick. Living with them are their younger half-siblings Harrison and Charlee, and their step-dad Gerry. A blended family brought together by the death of the children’s mother Sandee, who passed suddenly and unexpectedly in 2019.
Collin started dabbling in comedy soon after in 2020, but only really hit the scene in March 2025, and has been grinding ever since. Collin first got into standup when he discovered the Los Angeles Laugh Factory Comedy Workshop online during Covid lockdown. In these groups he met incredibly talented comedians from across America and the world, who coached and supported his writing, where he could cram years of experience and lessons into a matter of months.
Collin made his comedy debut at the Nest in 2021, and immediately caught the bug. Unfortunately, his orphan children needed him to be a dad at home, as they were still too young to completely abandon. But after four long years of the occasional stage time in Brampton Ontario, Cherry Hill NJ or Astoria NY, the children are now in their teens, and safe to leave alone for a few hours at night.
Appearing regularly at every open-mic he could find, he has performed nearly 100 sets in just six months (97 as of this article), was featured in the closing Dirtiest Mic show of WSCF3, and a guest of Advice By The Fireplace with Daniel Carin on CJLO radio. Collin has also performed voice acting, and can be seen in “Crash The System” on TUBI and Apple TV, written and directed by Kamal Ahmed, former Jerky Boy.

Where in Montreal are you located?
Tucked between Greenfield Park, Saint-Lambert, LeMoyne, and Saint-Hubert.
What do you love about that neighborhood?
The serenity of the country, with every convenience of the city. My corner has 4 buses that all go to the metro and come every 10 minutes. I can get downtown faster than someone who’s in Mo-West.
What’s your favourite art space in Montreal and why?
The entire city is a canvas. Art is everywhere you look. Every wall and lamp post is a gallery. I couldn’t name any one spot as the best. Go. Explore.
Describe your art in your own words.
I am carrying too much mental and emotional pain for any one person to bear, and I need to spread it around, “trauma littering” if you will.
What have you been working on recently?
Setting new goals for myself, trying to figure out what I actually want out of all this.
What inspired you to get into stand up comedy?
Sandee’s death. Life is too short to not do the thing. Also my first draft of her eulogy was a complete roast set. I still regret not telling it.
What inspires your joke writing?
Absurdity, perversion, and spite, as coping mechanisms for life.
Who is your favourite comedian right now?
Troy Bond from New York.
What is the best joke you’ve ever written?
Kurt Cobain was secretly a furry. He sexually identified as a dolphin. He died tragically, when he tried to put in his own blow-hole…
What’s your favorite Montreal room and why?
World’s Smallest Comedy at Hurleys with Vance, Walter, Troy, and Zak is hands down my favourite mic. Always has a decent audience, great producers and hosts, and always the best hang. It was where I performed my 1st open mic and where I plan to do my 100th soon. I feel truly honoured to have been part of the WSC Festival’s closing show this summer! An amazing sense of community there!
