Bio
I am a musician from Brooklyn, NY who's been living and going to school in Montreal since 2019. LCL GRL (Local Girl) is a my solo project that I started in October 2024 when I released my first EP. Since then I've been making little music videos of those songs (that I need to post elsewhere from Inst*gr*m Reels) while writing more and producing already written original pieces. I've been writing music for eight years, starting when I formed a band with my two neighbors/besties in high school. My primary instrument is my voice. I spent ages 10-14 in the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, where I progressed into the "Concert Ensemble" and performed (never soloed) in symphonies, theater productions, and our own original production called Black Mountain Songs. Humble brag, the album was nominated for a Grammy ;) When I left choir I started taking drum lessons and became the drummer of my band. We recorded an EP at the end of high school and one of the songs was written and sung by me. Even though we had to disband I didn't stop writing after that. I spent several years writing before I produced my first songs.

Where in Montreal are you located?
Parc-Ex.
What do you love about your neighborhood?
I've been here almost 4 years and I love pretty much everything about it. It's very central within the city and I have all the amenities I could ask for, but I miss my old Depanneur :(
What’s your favourite art space in Montreal and why?
Art space is a loose term so I'm gonna go with the new REM station at Édouard-Montpetit.
Describe your art in your own words.
I write music that reflects gut feelings I've had in life. But I make it fun. My art is driven, authentic, feminine, and eager.
What have you been working on recently?
I have my first real show in three days and I'm mentally (and musically) preparing. I'll be performing all new unreleased songs. I'm also working on a new EP.
What sparked your passion for music?
Just being involved in music from such a young age (I even took piano lessons before choir) it has cemented a place in my heart and has become a necessary creation of mine.
Describe your sound.
I try to maintain a balance of unique and catchy when I create a melody. Nothing is too complicated, but I feel like my songs are meandering through something rather than stating a specific thing. My sound adapts to its environment because it can take more than one shape (just like me).
What does your creative process look like?
Singing loudly and many many hours of staring at a laptop.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
To name a few: Amy Winehouse, Eartheater, Courtney Barnett, Emmylou Harris, Angel Olsen, Nourished by Time.
What do you love about playing live?
I don't know yet. I hope I am just able to do it well and pour my heart out without feeling constrained.
